What the numbers actually are
July is the peak: average highs around 41.5 °C, and overnight lows that barely drop below 29 °C. August is close behind and carries more humidity, which is the part that makes it feel worse than the thermometer suggests.
The sea gives you no relief either. Doha's water reaches roughly 33 °C in August — warm enough that swimming stops cooling you down. In winter the same sea sits between 19 and 24 °C, which is why the entire outdoor calendar in Qatar is inverted compared with Europe.
This is the part most tourism pages skip. Between June and September, the middle of the day outdoors is not a matter of preference — it is genuinely unsafe for children and older visitors.
Why the desert stops working first
Desert safaris are the classic Doha day out, and they are a winter activity. Dune surfaces radiate heat, there is no shade at the inland sea, and the drive itself is long. Operators keep running through summer, but the experience shifts to very early morning or overnight camping for a reason.
Public beaches have the same problem with an extra one on top: sand reflects, there is rarely shade, and the water is too warm to fix it.
What still works: the early and the late
Almost everything outdoors in a Doha summer becomes viable if you move it to the first two hours after sunrise or the last two before sunset. That is not a slogan, it is a temperature difference of eight to ten degrees plus the loss of direct overhead sun.
On the water, this is the whole game. A boat moving at speed generates its own wind, there is no sand to reflect heat, and the sunset hour along the Corniche is genuinely pleasant even in August. A boat sitting still at anchor at 1pm in August is not.

An early-morning island trip also works — out to Al Safliya at seven, back before ten, QAR 700–900 for the boat for a small group. Beyond that, a full day at anchor is a October-to-May format, and any operator selling you a midday August charter as a good idea is selling you a bad one.
