Qatar's outdoor calendar is the inverse of Europe's: the good season runs from October to May, the hard months are the ones everyone else calls summer holidays. Here is the year, month by month, from the water.
The two seasons that matter
Doha has a comfortable season and a hard one, and the line between them is sharp. From roughly November to April the city is one of the better winter-sun destinations anywhere: daytime air in the low-to-mid twenties, sea still swimmable, no rain to speak of. From June to September it is the opposite — July averages around 35 °C across the whole day, with average highs near 41.5 °C.
January is the coolest month of the year at about 17.7 °C on average. That sounds mild for a beach holiday, and it is: winter here is jumper-in-the-evening weather, not cold.
The sea runs behind the air by about a month
This is the part that catches people out. The water does not follow the calendar you expect: it bottoms out around 18–23 °C in the depths of winter, climbs steadily through spring from 22 to 28 °C, peaks near 33–34 °C in August, and is still 27–31 °C through the autumn.
So October and November are the sweet spot for swimming — the air has become pleasant again while the sea is still holding late-summer warmth. April and May are the mirror image: lovely air, water that is still catching up.
If swimming is the point of your trip rather than the cruise, aim for October or November. It is the only window where both the air and the water are on your side.

Wind matters more than most visitors expect. The Gulf is shallow, so a windy afternoon builds a short, uncomfortable chop quickly — mornings are almost always the calmer half of the day, in any month.
Crowds follow the calendar exactly. From November to March, weekend afternoons around the Corniche and the islands are busy; midweek at any time of year, you will have most of it to yourself.
Booking around the calendar
Two periods move the whole schedule: Ramadan, when departures shift around iftar and evening trips become the norm, and Qatar National Day in December, when the waterfront is at its busiest all year.
Prices themselves do not swing wildly by season — a private speed boat stays at QAR 450–600 per hour year-round — but availability does. In the cool months, book several days ahead for a weekend; in July and August you can usually have a sunrise slot the next morning.
